BMI Calculator for Seniors
BMI is calculated the same way at every age, but for adults over 65 a slightly higher range appears to be protective. This gives your BMI and reads it against the range recommended for older adults.

| 23 to 30 | Recommended range |
| Over 30 | Above range |
Why the range shifts with age
BMI is still weight (kg) / height (m)², but in older adults a little extra reserve is associated with better outcomes — helping through illness and reducing frailty. Several guidelines suggest a healthy range of about 23 to 30 for people 65 and over, higher than the 18.5-24.9 used for younger adults.
What BMI misses in older adults
With age, people lose muscle and may lose height, both of which distort BMI. Someone can be within range yet have low muscle mass (sarcopenia). Pair BMI with waist size, grip strength and how weight is changing over time, and discuss any concern with a doctor.
