How to find a percent of a number
Multiply the number by the percent, then divide by 100: 15% of 80 is 80 x 15 / 100 = 12. A quick shortcut for 10% is to move the decimal one place left (10% of 80 = 8), then scale from there — 5% is half of that, 20% is double.
Adding or subtracting the percent
For a tip or markup, add the percent back: 80 + 15% = 92. For a discount, subtract it: 80 - 15% = 68. The calculator shows both, so it doubles as a quick tip and sale-price tool.
