Service by mileage or by time
Automakers set service by whichever comes first: mileage (often every 5,000–7,500 miles for an oil change) or time (typically 12 months). Drive a lot and you hit the mileage first; drive little and the time interval reminds you. This calculator focuses on mileage and estimates the time from your monthly average.
Why not to skip it
Skipping or delaying service can void the factory warranty and let small wear items — old oil, brakes, belts — turn into expensive repairs. Scheduled maintenance replaces the right parts at the right time and keeps a clean service history, which also helps resale value.
Check the owner’s manual
The interval and what gets replaced at each service are in the owner’s manual and the maker’s maintenance plan. Some items (like the timing belt or transmission fluid) have their own schedules. Enter your car’s actual interval above if it differs from the default.
