How the conversion works
Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year: hourly = annual ÷ (hours/week × weeks/year). A $52,000 salary at 40 hours a week over 52 weeks is 52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25/hour. Fewer paid weeks or longer hours both lower the effective hourly rate.
The hours you actually work matter
Salaried roles often expect more than 40 hours without extra pay. If you really work 50 hours a week, that $52,000 salary is worth $20/hour, not $25 — the extra hours quietly cut your true rate. Enter your real hours to see the honest number.
Comparing offers
Turning a salary into an hourly rate lets you line it up against hourly or freelance work. But remember a salary usually bundles paid leave, benefits and stability; a freelance hourly rate has to cover those itself, which is why freelancers charge more per hour for the same take-home.
