Body Fat Percentage Calculator

Body fat percentage tells you more than weight alone — it separates fat from muscle and bone. This estimates it from your height, weight, age and sex, no calipers required.

How the estimate works

This uses the Deurenberg equation, which predicts body fat from BMI, age and sex: body fat % = 1.2 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 10.8 × sex − 5.4 (sex is 1 for men, 0 for women). From the percentage, your fat mass and lean mass follow directly. It needs no measuring tape — just the four fields.

Typical ranges

Rough healthy bands: men around 10–20%, women around 18–28% (women carry more essential fat). Athletes sit lower; the risk zone is high body fat regardless of weight. Because this is a population estimate from BMI, a very muscular person will read too high — the formula cannot tell muscle from fat.

When to measure directly

For a real number, methods like skinfold calipers, bioelectrical impedance scales or a DEXA scan measure body fat rather than infer it. Use this estimate to track a trend over time; the direction it moves is more reliable than any single reading.
