BMI Calculator

BMI compares your weight with your height to show whether you sit in a healthy weight range. It is a quick screening number — a starting point, not a diagnosis.

How BMI is calculated

The formula is BMI = weight ÷ height², with weight in kilograms and height in meters. For example, 70 kg at 1.70 m gives 70 / (1.70 × 1.70) ≈ 24.2. Prefer pounds and inches? Use the unit toggle — the math is identical, only the display changes.

WHO classification ranges

Underweight: below 18.5. Normal weight: 18.5 to 24.9. Overweight: 25 to 29.9. Obesity class I: 30 to 34.9. Class II: 35 to 39.9. Class III: 40 or above. These cut-offs apply to adults.

What BMI does not tell you

BMI does not separate muscle from fat, and it ignores where fat sits on your body, your age and your sex. A muscular athlete can score "overweight" while carrying very little fat, and someone with a normal BMI can still carry excess abdominal fat. Treat it as a first reference and speak to a health professional for a full assessment.
