How a weighted grade works

Multiply each grade by its weight, add them up, and divide by the total weight: grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ weight. With 90 (weight 20), 80 (30) and 95 (50), that is (1800 + 2400 + 4750) ÷ 100 = 89.5%. The weights do not have to add to 100 — the calculator divides by whatever they total.

Weights from your syllabus

Your syllabus lists how each category counts — for example homework 20%, midterm 30%, final 50%. Put your average in each category as a grade and its percentage as the weight. Leave the weights blank and the calculator falls back to a simple average.

Projecting your final grade

To see where you will land, enter the categories you have finished plus an expected grade for what is left, weighted as the syllabus says. To find the exact grade you need on a remaining exam to hit a target, use the grade-needed calculator instead.
