How length of service is counted

Tenure is the calendar difference between the hire date and today (or the last day worked), in years, months and days. From a hire on Jan 1, 2020 to Jul 6, 2026 is 6 years, 6 months and 5 days. The calculator also gives the total days, handy for pro-rating.

Where tenure matters

Length of service often drives paid time off accrual (more days as you stay longer), retirement or equity vesting, service awards and anniversary milestones. The exact rules vary by employer and country, so use this as the tenure figure and apply your own policy on top.

Service date vs continuous service

A single hire date is the simple case. If tenure was broken by a gap — a rehire, a leave, a transfer — many employers use an adjusted service date so the clock reflects continuous service. Enter that adjusted date here if your policy uses one.
