| Each person (4) | $35.40 |
How to split the bill
Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people: a $120 bill split 4 ways is $30 each. With an 18% tip, the total becomes $141.60 and each person pays $35.40. The tip is applied to the whole bill before dividing.
Even split vs. by what you ordered
An even split is fastest for a group and fair when everyone ate similarly. When one person ordered far more — or drinks add up on one side — the fairer approach is to pay for what you ordered plus a proportional share of the tip. For casual meals, splitting evenly is simpler and keeps the peace.
Rounding and the awkward cents
Dividing rarely lands on round numbers. It is common to round each share up to the nearest dollar so the total is covered (and the extra becomes a little more tip), or to let one person cover the odd cents. The calculator gives the exact figure; round as your group prefers.
