How the conversion works
Every currency here carries a value against the US dollar. To convert, the amount is multiplied by the rate between the two: $100 at 0.93 euros per dollar = €93. Converting between two non-dollar currencies simply crosses both rates — EUR → JPY goes through the dollar automatically. Enter a rate today and that number overrides the reference.
Rates move constantly
The built-in rates are approximations and go stale quickly — the FX market reprices every second, and the mid-market rate you see quoted in the news is rarely the rate you get. Check your bank, broker or card issuer for the live number before committing to a transaction.
The rate is not the whole cost
The mid-market rate sits between what buyers pay and what sellers accept. Providers earn from the spread they add around it, and often a transfer or card fee on top. Two providers quoting "no fees" can still differ by several percent purely through the spread — compare the final amount landed, not the advertised rate.
